About Asa

I am the Director of Energy Policy and Planning at the Vermont Department of Public Service. Before joining DPS, I worked at the United States Department of Energy for Under Secretary for Science Steven Koonin, serving as Dr. Koonin’s assistant project director for the DOE’s Quadrennial Technology Review. Before that I worked as an analyst at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, providing economic and technical analysis of federal energy efficiency standards for appliances. I earned a B.S., summa cum laude, in Physics from Haverford College and an M.S. and Ph.D, both in Physics, from the California Institute of Technology. I joined the DPS at the beginning of October, 2011.
tinyThom.as
I created the web service http://tinyThom.as. This simple site allows you to generate permanent links to many of the pages on http://thomas.loc.gov (aka THOMAS). THOMAS uses temporary URLs for many of its pages, making it hard to bookmark pages or share them with friends. tinyThom.as generates the permanent URL that corresponds to most temporary URLs from THOMAS, and also gives you a short link that's good for Twitter and the like. The code is available at http://github.com/asahopkins/rubyurl.
